I have cared for you since you were born.
Yes, I carried you before you were born.
I will be your God throughout your lifetime—
until your hair is white with age.
I made you, and I will care for you.
I will carry you along and save you.

Isaiah 46:3-4

We are all about caring for the hurting, the lonely, the lost, the forgotten and the sick. HUGS blanket ministry is a mixture of a fellowship community of believers and an outreach to the community, nation and our world.

Fellowship Community

HUGS meets the second and third Tuesday of each month sharing life with one another and making blankets. These fleece blankets are cut, crocheted, and wrapped with a loving message of encouragement to be given out to those in need. We also crochet homeless mats made from paper bags that are cut and linked together to make plarn (plastic yarn). Details of how to make plarn can be found below.

To be part of HUGS, you do not need to know how to crochet, there are plenty of other ways to serve and you will be blessed by the friendships that are made and the love that is shown to one another.

HUGS takes our blankets out into the community to those that are sick, in hospitals or at home. They are sent to orphans in other countries. The blankets are given to those that are recovering from a loss of a loved one. Blankets are given to those that just need to know they are loved.

The homeless mats are given to the homeless in our community. These mats are laid on the ground providing a dryer and softer nights sleeps.

Plarn is simply plastic yarn made from grocery and shopping bags. Plarn is not made from produce bags or dry cleaner bags. Below are directions on the three steps to making homeless mats.
