Ongoing Outreach Opportunities

HUGS Blanket Ministry: A warm, soft, hand trimmed fleece blanket is what this ministry provides to hundred of children locally, and around the world each year!  From sick children in the Emergency Room to orphans in Africa, these blankets are hand trimmed and loaded with love.

Volunteers trim fleece blankets using basic crocheting stitches.  If you don't know how to crochet, we will teach you.  HUGS meets the first and third Tuesday of each month from 9:00 a.m.- noon in the Fellowship Hall. E-mail us for more information.

Meals on Wheels: This Cherokee County sponsored program delivers a hot meal and a little companionship to the elderly, homebound, and disabled who are unable to purchase or prepare their own meals. If you would like to volunteer with Meals on Wheels, or have questions, please leave a message with Rita Faber at 770-592-9442.

Prison Ministries: This ministry's purpose is to bring the Word of God and the healing power of God's grace to men and women in State and Federal correctional institutions.  This Hillside ministry participates in Kairos (Emmaus) weekends as well as Bible studies. E-mail us for additional information about the men's or women's prison ministries.

Youth Detention Center: Hillside's YDC ministry provides servants to spend time conversation, bible study, and prayer with youth being held at the center in Paulding County. We also assist with Vacation Bible School during the summer months. E-mail us for more information about this caring ministry.

Habitat for Humanity: Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families and community volunteers such as Hillside. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable loans. The homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments are used to build still more Habitat houses.

Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and the monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor — sweat equity — into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.

For more information about HFH visit www.habitat.org. E-mail us if you would like more information on Hillside's work with HFH.

Another way to get involved is by working at the HFH Retail Store in Canton.  You can volunteer with only a few days notice by calling Habitat at 770-345-1879.  Store hours are Monday-Friday from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
