Description:  VBS weeks are action-packed weeks where the energy and excitement are infectious.  A veritable army of volunteers is needed to run VBS.  Travel guides, games, crafts, Bible stories, video, music, and decorations all play a part.    Recommended Spiritual Gifts:  Teaching, Evangelism, Hospitality, Administration, Helping, or Creative Communication.

High Seas Expedition is for our younger children, Pre-K's - 3rd grade, with a full nursery program for servants.  Over 250 servants are needed with a minimum of 100 adults for the program to occur. 

At Egypt: Joseph's Journey from Prison to Palace, 4th - 6th graders will experience an adventure where participants will gather as the tribes of Israel to learn about the story of Joseph.  Servants must be 9th grade and older.  14 men are needed to be tribe leaders and teachers.

Photojournalist

Description:  The library and bookstore seeks to serve Hillside by encouraging reading and study to further our community's walk with Christ.  The servants help make available Christian-based books, entertainment, and other materials.  Servants help direct our patrons to books and other materials available in the library and bookstore.  We also help prepare these materials for check-out in the library or for sale in the bookstore.  Training is provided..

Landscaping

Painting

Description:  Hillside is a large facility with over 3,000 people in the building every week.  You can imagine the need to address the painting of the facility.  If you like to paint, walls need almost constant touch-ups to cover scuff marks.

Hillside Buildings & Ground Work Days

Frequency & Timing of Service: Workdays will be held on Saturdays, one in the spring and one in the fall.  Information regarding projects, team leaders and sign-ups will be communicated prior to the event.

Description:  Twice a year we will organize a day of projects both indoors and out to concentrate on our facilities.  The purpose is to be good stewards of the resources God has given to us.  The workday begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m. with lunch provided.  Tasks will include both small and large projects such as landscaping, painting, building maintenance and cleaning.

New Baby Ministry

Description:  Team visits families after the birth or adoption of a child.  When visiting, servants bring a gift bag filled with current information about Hillside's nursery and children's programs as well as items contributed by other Hillside Ministries.

Funeral & Memorial Service Assistants

Neighborhood Lighthouse Care Group Leader

Frequency & Timing of Service: Contact with the group is done quarterly by the Lighthouse leader.  Training is provided.

Description:  Lighthouse Care Groups minister to and care for one another by geographic neighborhoods.  These groups are designed to bring members together in a supportive environment and shared fellowship with others who are part of our Hillside family.  They contact new people who move into the area and occasionally email the group to request a meal for a family within the neighborhood that is going through a crisis or illness.

Visitation Team

Description:  Welcome returning visitors to Hillside by hand delivering a gift and ministry information to their homes, and provide willing ears to listen and warm smiles of welcome. Call 1st Time Visitors

Description:  On Monday or Tuesday team members are emailed the phone numbers of the past Sunday's 1st time visitors.  They then give the visitor a welcome call and answer any questions they might have about Hillside.  The visitor team then reports back to the Membership Office by email about their phone conversations.  Team members are usually not given more than two families to call; exceptions would be holiday services where there are many 1st time visitors..

Coffee and Food Ministry

HUGS Blanket Making Ministry

Family Faith Film Festival

Description:  Provide toys, clothing, food, etc. at Christmas for the less fortunate Children in Cherokee County.  We serve approximately 800 to 1,000 children annually.  Serve as  a member of the Planning Team or as a Team Servant.

Worship Arts

Visual Design Team

Frequency & Timing of Service: Team meetings are held approximately every 6 weeks, though the team contributes to the worship spaces on a weekly basis.

Description:  Strives to make use of their artistic and creative abilities to connect people to God through the use of our senses, both during worship and outside of worship.  Visual Design Team reinforces the messages and worship themes sin striking ways that evoke feeling and meaning. These elements are often set up on a Friday or Saturday prior to weekend worship.  This team also contributes greatly to the decoration of the church for special seasons such as Christmas (Advent) and Easter (Lent).  Also offers special flower arrangements in celebration of birthdays, anniversaries, baptisms, etc.  .

Technical Ministries

Frequency & Timing of Service: Servants typically serve on a rotation, serving 2 Sundays a month for approximately 2 hours each time during worship services.

Description:  Makes use of technology to enhance our experiences in worship and beyond worship.  Using audio, video, lighting, and computer equipment, these servants help video, lighting, and computer equipment, these servants help us all CONNECT  better to the message that is conveyed through the worship experiences.  In addition to Sunday worship, this team regularly assists with special events at the church including weddings and banquets.  Experience is not required to be a part of this team, just an interest in learning how technology can be applied in worship.

Drama Ministry

Description:  This team of actors, puppeteers and set;/costume designers contributes to the worship experiences by engaging us in dramatic depictions of circumstances that help us connect to the message and meaning of worship.  Periodically prepares short vignettes that are offered in worship to further illustrate the message of the day.  In addition to the weekly worship experiences, this team will contribute to the Christmas Eve Family and Children's Services, which are a dramatic adaptation of the Good News of Christ's birth. These services are approximately 1 hour in length and call for all experience levels, from beginner to accomplished actor.  Will also participate in other celebrations through the church year..

Psalm 100 Contemporary Praise Team (by audition/interview)

Frequency & Timing of Service: Play for both the 9:30 and 11:00 Sunday contemporary worship services on alternating weeks.  Weekly rehearsals on Wednesdays and Sundays..

Description:  Help lead contemporary worship services as part of the musical team.  Both vocalists and musicians are needed.  Selection of the team members will be by both audition and interview.

Chancel Choir

Frequency & Timing of Service: Rehearsals each Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Music Suite downstairs behind Celebration Hall.

Description:  This group helps to lead worship in our Traditional Worship services, as well as preparing and presenting special musical offerings through the year, ranging in style from spirituals to classical repertoire.  Open to all singers, and no audition or previous choral experience is required.

Chamber Choir (by audition: Wed 8:30 p.m. weekly rehearsals, perform 1 time per month)

Frequency & Timing of Service: Rehearsals are weekly on Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary.  Will sing once a month in worship.

Description:  The smaller ensemble leads worship by offering some of the more difficult choral literature of the past and present.  Audition is required.

Handbell Choir (adults; weekly rehearsals Sunday at 5:00 p.m. for Beginning Choir, 6:00 p.m. for Advanced Choir)

Frequency & Timing of Service: Rehearsals weekly on Sundays:  Beginning Choir at 5:00 p.m. and Advanced Choir at 6:00 p.m.

Description:  This group offers a more unique, instrumental aspect to worship through the playing of handbells.  Ability to read music is recommended.

Singing Solos or with Small Ensembles for Traditional Worship

Description:  Add meaning to Sunday worship by singing as a soloist or with small ensembles in Traditional worship.

Acolytes (4th grade & older, training provided)

Frequency & Timing of Service: Schedule to be announced for the 11:00 a.m. Traditional Worship Services.

Description:  Acolytes have an important and symbolic role in the 11:00 a.m. traditional worship service.  They carry the flame representing Christ into and out of worship as well as assist in other ways.  Participants must be in fourth grade or older.  Training will be provided.

Children's Choir Leaders or Helpers (Wednesday evenings)

Frequency & Timing of Service: 5 p.m. on Wednesdays. (Children's Choirs do not meet during the summer).

Description:  Lead or assist with:

Sonbeam Choir (age 3 as of 9/01/09) - We move to music, play instruments and learn the Doxology.  We will sing in church several times during the year.

Cherub Choir (age 4 as of 9/01/09) - We learn more about worship and singing and have limited participation in our Fall and Spring Musicals.  We also play handbells.

Kids Praise (Grades K thru 2nd) - We learn to sing together as an ensemble, memorize several hymns, and work with Joyful Noise to present two musicals per year.

Joyful Noise (Grades 3rd thru 6th) - Joyful Noise sings regularly in worship, Christmas Eve and takes a leadership role in our Fall and Spring Musicals.
